As we come up to our fifth anniversary here at Southend Barns we thought we would take a moment to reflect, not only on all the beautiful weddings we have had the honour of being a part of, but also on all the wonderful things we have achieved in our five short years.
It was from a complex of run down barns on the family-farm that our elegant wedding venue was born. Retaining the rustic charm of the original structures, we lovingly restored the buildings using environmentally sustainable technology into the venue you see today. All the years of meticulous planning and attention to detail were rewarded when we won the Observer’s Innovation of the Year Awards in 2013 and took first place in the Commercial Category at the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards in 2014.
Over the past five years, we’ve also been regularly shortlisted as a best barn venue finalist in the UK Wedding Awards and Wedding Industry Awards.
Wonderful Wedding Fairs
An event that we have been running since 2013 is our Wedding Inspiration Fair. The fair started as an annual winter event, bringing together the best suppliers in the area so that brides and grooms could come and be inspired and spend an afternoon leisurely taking in our breath-taking barns. However, the fair proved to be such a success that we also decided to hold a summer event, providing inspiration for these two very different seasons and showcasing how beautiful our barns look whatever the weather. This year as a combined wedding fair and anniversary celebration we will be holding a glorious garden party on Sunday 7th May. With lots of fantastic wedding suppliers, refreshments by our in-house caterers Field & Fork, and live music plus garden games – we are expecting it to be our best wedding fair yet!
Over the years, we have raised money for a number of charities close to our hearts including St Wilfred’s Hospice, Brain Research Trust, Cancer Research UK, Children with Cancer and the Alzheimer’s Society. This was achieved through various events and challenges such as our Bridal Fashion Show in 2014, our Southend Barns Choir, Mariella’s amazing Brighton Marathon and most recently the Chichester 10k in February 2017, where we raised over £1,600!
We are so proud of everything we have achieved over the last five years and look forward to seeing what the next five years has to offer!
