The recent flurry of snow reminded us here at Southend Barns how glorious the cooler weather can be. A wedding which fully embraced the snow season was Olly and Daisy’s fabulous ski themed wedding in January. The couple transformed our barns into a pine scented alpine wonderland complete with vintage ski displays, powdered snow and a ski lift photo-booth!
Starting the day St Anton style, the couple arrived at our barns in a helicopter. A glass of bubbly was waiting for them on the ground before they made their way inside to greet their guests, grabbing their wedding lift passes on the way in.
The Dairy Barn looked magical with a canopy of twinkling fairy lights hung from the beams. The walls were flanked with skis and rustic barrels, adorned with ski boot vases and old fashioned ice skates, provided fitting tables to rest drinks. A beautiful pair of vintage skis created a unique guest book, which guests signed with white chalk pen. Nooks were filled with charming snow themed set ups, including sleighs, fur branches, hurricane candles and model deer, all finished with a dusting of snow for effect.
Throughout the barns and our Collecting Yard, chairs and benches were lined with soft sheepskin and fur throws adding to the cosy feel of the day. The courtyard – with ski adorned bar – was gorgeously snug as the couple took advantage of our large fire pit and outdoor heaters. Hanging centre-stage was a beautiful brass cowbell, signposted ‘Ring for a kiss’.
To ensure their guests had plenty to keep them entertained, our lawns became home to a ski race game. Meanwhile inside, a fantastic full-sized ski lift photo-booth, complete with mountainous backdrop and vintage ski dress-up, gave this wedding a great air of fun and kept to the theme beautifully.
Finally, snow scattered tables with hessian runners, candles and pine cones finished the alpine look, transporting guests hundreds of miles to a world of white slopes and wooden cabins.
