A month of menu tastings

It has been a busy few weeks at Southend Barns as we have been hosting our latest series of Menu Tasting Events for couples getting married here. As well as sampling an array of dishes from our in-house catering team Roots, there were also handpicked wedding suppliers providing inspiration and advice.

The evenings started with drinks on arrival and a welcoming fire pit with a s’mores station in the Collecting Yard for couples to tuck into. Guests had the chance to enjoy their drinks in the Dairy Barn where they were entertained with live music from Toast Functions and Clifton Entertainment whilst talking to members of the team.

Couples then moved into the Threshing Barn where there were food stations piled with delicious sample dishes including starters, sharing platters, mains and desserts. New for this year, were our dessert grazing tables. A feast for the senses, the grazing tables are ideal for couples wanting a less formal yet stylish food offering, whether that be a table of desserts, cheese and biscuits or fresh fruit. Couples had the chance to sample each of the dishes whilst also appreciating the visual impact of each carefully prepared and presented menu option.

As well as the food, we showcased various drinks packages available to couples, including wines, local sparkling wine from Tinwood and a plethora of local and artisan gins.

The barns were dressed to perfection by suppliers, with themed tables highlighting the different styles of table and layout options available for couples to choose. The florists, stylists and stationers came together to create inspiring tablescapes and amazing installations were hung from the overhead beams by To Have and To Hire, Hire Your Day and Bubblegum Balloons.

There were also beautifully baked wedding cakes on display from both Queen Bees and Sweet Cakes as well as delicious samples for guests to enjoy. The master bakers showed guests a range of options from macaron towers and traditional tiered wedding cakes to more quirky and personalised creations in a selection of mouth-watering flavours.
The evenings were captured by photographers and videographers, who were also on hand to talk to couples and answer any questions. For a more informal photo experience, guests could test out the photobooths complete with fun props, which always prove popular at weddings.

The final Tasting Evening of the month had a BBQ theme for couples that had expressed an interest in this more relaxed dining option. Bringing back the spirit of summer, the menu was made up of BBQ options and colourful fresh salads while music from Steel Strum helped add to the atmosphere.
In between the sampling of exquisite food and inspiration from suppliers, couples had the chance to chat to members of our Southend Barns and Roots team to ask any questions about their day and to help them with their wedding planning.
